Aoife’s Positive Birth Story

Positive Induction at 37 weeks, high blood pressure, no epidural & no sutures needed.

Hiya Hayley

I was just thinking of you the past two days and that I better email you.

On the 17th of January I went for my 36 weeks scan with my obstetrician. After a very stable pregnancy my blood pressure spiked and I started to have elevated liver enzymes (no protein in my urine).

They monitored my blood pressure and bloods nearly everyday for the rest of that week.

My obstetrician was concerned that I was heading for preeclampsia. High blood pressure in pregnancy seems to be a trend in my family.

Anyway he knew I wanted a vaginal birth and lucky for me the pregnancy had reached full term, the baby's head was down and my cervix was soft. So I was booked in on the 24th for an induction.

Exactly 37 weeks and 1 day.

I was induced at 11:30am that Tuesday morning, contractions started at 1:30pm and I had my baby Finn at 5:09pm that evening.

It was very fast and I didn't have time to get used to the pressure of the contractions.

They gave me gas and by the time my bloods were back to give me the go ahead for an epidural (which I didn't really want anyway) I was already in delivery with the babys head coming.

Hayley I roared my head off and I think it was a kind of stress relief. I didn't know I could scream so loud 😬😬😬.

I had only superficial tears and no sutures afterwards.

I think that the induction robbed me of some control over dealing with contractions but overall I am so happy with my labour.

I got to feel everything which is what I wanted and to have a vaginal delivery!!!!

I was ready for it and not afraid.

I've attached some photos of us. Thank you again for your classes.

It changed my frame of mind.

Between your classes, antenatal classes, pregnancy yoga and using my exercise ball I really believe it led to a result like this.

Baby Finn was jaundiced, but he didn't need treatment for it and the hospital don't need to see him for checks anymore. My liver enzymes and blood pressure are returning to normal now also.

I hope you're well.

Kind Regards

Aoife, Andrew and Finn
